Business Development Internships

Business development internships

The only one of its kind in Australia, the WEHI Business Development Internship Program aims to give young, talented scientists a competitive edge in an increasingly competitive global environment. Technology transfer and business development skills have become highly valued aspects of contemporary research culture. The internship program provides training in five core areas:

  • Opportunity identification and analysis
  • Intellectual property management
  • Technology marketing communication
  • Collaboration and licence agreements
  • Technology transfer governance.

Monthly seminars provide formal training in business managment, establishing collaborations, understanding the biotech and pharmaceutical markets and technology transfer.

Catalyst fund

The Business Development Office (BDO) has recently developed the WEHI Business Development Catalyst Fund. Modelled on successful incubator or accelerator funds in academia in the US and more recently in Australia, the primary objectives of the Catalyst Fund are to:

  • Bridge the translational funding gap for investment in proof of concept experiments
  • Create greater intellectual property value and
  • Strengthen WEHI’s ability to translate knowledge into beneficial outcomes.
