Introduction

WEHI is fortunate to benefit from the generosity of people who leave us a gift in their Will.

These gifts, however large or small, help ensure our scientists can keep making discoveries that will help people live healthier for longer.

Future giving

We pride ourselves on the relationships we share with our regular donors, many of whom have indicated their intention to leave a gift in their Will. In some cases, however, a gift in their Will is the first time a person has donated to WEHI.

Such was the case for Michael Hutchinson, who died in March 2020 at age 72. Until his death, Michael lived in a boarding house in Sydney’s inner west. A retired medical worker, Michael donated half his life savings to WEHI in his Will.

WEHI future giving manager Anne Rady said Michael’s gift was an indication of the generosity of the community and their desire to support medical research.

“All bequests, no matter the size, can make an enormous difference to our research endeavours. These gifts help our researchers develop better diagnostic tools, prevent disease progression, and improve health outcomes for people in our community.”

“It is always an honour to be the recipient of such an important and significant gift”
Anne Rady

“I regret that I did not have the opportunity to know Michael during his lifetime or thank him for his commitment to support our discoveries.”

Ms Rady encouraged anyone considering a gift in their Will to make their wishes known.

“When we can speak to someone who is thinking of leaving a gift to WEHI in their Will, we can work with them to direct those funds towards the type of research that is most meaningful to them”

A bequest creates lasting positive change and ensures a person’s memory lives on. It is a powerful gift that keeps on giving well beyond a person’s lifetime.
